Eclipse plug-in for Symbian OS C++ development

This plug-in allows to write C++ programs for Symbian in the Eclipse IDE.

New: A test version of the plug-in 0.6.0 is avaible. It's not yet finished so some things do not work but if you would like to install it (and send me a note if you find a bug) see here. The latest version is 0.5.97.

Skins Pack for plug-in v0.5.2. Contains Nokia 7610, 6670, 6630 and 3230 skins for the emulator: symbdev-skins.zip (137kB)
Install it like other Eclipse plug-ins. You can also download the quick&dirty skin editor here. It is written in C# and will require the .NET Framework 1.1. The screen size and keys list are hard coded for Series 60 but this can be easly changed in the source.

Known bugs:

• The projects list doesn't display in the Run configuration if there is a closed project in the workbench ("Launch UI internal error" dialog is shown). A workaround is to open all the projects before changing the Run configuration or to apply this patch. A patched version is avalible here.
• Preprocessor symbols and include paths are not loaded during a new project creation. After creating a new project with the New Project Wizard choose Project > Properties > Symbian > Show Symbols... and then Rescan. After that the Code Assist should work (even if very slowly. You may want to increase the timeout in the Preferences).
• dumpbin.exe is not shipped with the latest MS Platform SDKs (the link -dump does what dumpbin did so it was removed). We now have our own wrappers that call link -option by Ralph Weires: dumpbin.exe, lib.exe, Source code.

• The plug-in cannot autodetect the latest MS Platform SDKs. The plug-in won't detect Visual C++ based toolchain as it requires the Platform SDK as a component. You can add it manally by clicking "Add..." on the Win32 Compilation Tools page, choosing a name and adding the following directories to the PATH:

  • <vc++ toolkit dir>\bin
  • <.NET SDK dir>\bin
  • <path to dumpbin.exe and lib.exe>

  Note than now when we have our own dumpbin.exe and lib.exe the Platform SDK is not needed.

  Alternatively you may add to the following registry key: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MicrosoftSDK\Directories" an "Install Dir" string value and set the content as a path to a driectory which in a bin subdirectory have the dumpbin.exe and lib.exe programs. The autodetection should then work.
